Welcome to the South Dublin County Council Disability Liaison / Access and Barcelona Declaration website.
South Dublin County Council is committed to the mainstreaming of all our services. This means that our goal is that every department will ensure that the services they provide and manage are accessible to the whole community, and that disabled people can access services at the same point and in the same way as non-disabled people. Disabled people can and should expect that all departments have considered varying and multiple access needs when they are planning facilities and information services. This commitment is ongoing, and includes a schedule of actions to upgrade facilities and a variety of disability related training (Disability Equality, Access awareness etc) for staff members.
At the Council, we are aware that even when we have done everything possible to make our services accessible, that this alone will not ensure that every disabled person can access our services. We therefore have a Disability Liaison / Access Officer, whom disabled individuals can contact if they need specific supports, such as a sign interpreter, or to whom they can address issues they encounter when accessing services.
On this site you will find information regarding the many developments that contribute to improved access to facilities and services in our County. Many of the improvements have taken place due to the implementation of both the Barcelona Declaration and the Disability Act (2005).
If you have comments or would like to suggest information that you feel should be included on the site, please feel free to contact me either by telephone, or by using the contact facilities on this site.
Best regards,
Selina Bonnie MA
